Just outside of Abu Dhabi sit a group of fossilized sand dunes. Tucked between scattered homes, powerline lines, and roar of fighter jets from a near by air base, the sandstone sculptures tell the long history of the vast seas of sand on the Arabian Penninsula. Access is by an unmarked path through the sand off of a well traveled road just south east of Al Dhafra Air Base. The area is little more than a curiousity rather than a park or some other official destination. This is apparent by the unforunate amounts of trash in and around the dunes. Neverless, the textures and shapes make the trip worth it. Of course, sunset and sunrise are the best times to capture the best light – not to mention the coolest if you happen to be there during the scorching summer months.
